A man has been arrested after a crash between a motorbike and a car in County Down.

It happened near the junction with the main Kilkeel Road and Pat’s Road in Ballymartin around midday yesterday.

Sergeant Paul Connolly said: "We would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision between a motorbike and a black Ford Focus.

"The rider of the bike was air-lifted to hospital and is being treated for injuries which are believed to be serious, but not life-threatening at this time.

"A 55 year old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm by careless driving and is currently helping police with their enquiries.

"If you saw anything that could help our investigation into this incident, please get in touch with police on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference 622 of 28/5/17."
