Will they crumble at the Crumlin? Strongmen to swap power lifting for the paranormal
They might be big, burly men who are capable of pulling 52 tonne trucks, lifting more than twice their weight or eating up to 10,000 calories a day, but do these strongmen have what it takes to spend the night in one of Belfast’s most haunted buildings?
Ahead of this weekend’s ‘Ultimate Strongman Masters World Championship 2018’, Irish contestant, Pete ‘The Tractor’ McCallan, along with US competitor Ken McClelland, will be swapping power lifting for the paranormal and putting their mental grit to the test during a night of ghostly and ghoulish goings on when they enter Crumlin Road Gaol on Thursday 28th June.
The contestants, along with Q Radio’s presenter Ryan A, will spend a night of torment at the Gaol, exploring some of the most haunted regions including the infamous underground tunnel. They will be filmed as they hear harrowing stories and hunt for spine-chilling spirit residents, including the ghostly figure of a man who walks down ‘C Wing’ and disappears. Other haunted happenings that have been reported in the Victorian building are strange sounds, screams for help and doors slamming shut by themselves.
Footage from the strongmen’s nocturnal nightmare will be available to view on Q Radio’s Facebook page from Friday 29th June.
The strongmen will be hoping for a quick recovery from their ordeal, in time to compete just 24 hours later.
The Ultimate Strongman Masters World Championship 2018 will feature four times World’s Strongest Man, Žydrūnas ‘Big Z’ Savickas, and will be held at Crumlin Road Gaol on Saturday 30th June and Sunday 1st July. Tickets start at £11.25 and are available to purchase online from www.ultimatestrongman.tv/masters-world-championship-2018/.
